Easter Seals Project
Have you ever done a good deed to help someone, whether it is assisting the elderly or someone in need? Well, I volunteered at a school called Easter Seals. I educated younger children with autism and other disabilities such as blindness, hearing impairment, and Dwarfism. In addition, I also read books and played with the children at the school. I ultimately chose to volunteer for the Easter Seals Program because I personally have encountered a lot of the problems that these children are experiencing when I was younger. I want to tell and educate children about my story and how I was able to overcome a lot of the challenges and problems that I was faced with. As a person with learning differences, I have been able to overcome a lot of challenges and problems that I faced. People believed that I would not be able to achieve on my own. This is a lesson that I instructed to the students in the class one day about whether you have disabilities and other learning differences or not. Everyone is the same and you can achieve great things by being passionate and determined. While volunteering at the school, I also participated in a fundraising event. The fundraiser was a walk-a-thon at my local zoo in Philadelphia where myself and others helped raise money for the Easter Seals Program. By the end we raised around $20,000 going towards the school for supplies that the students can use. My family and I also made a donation to the Easter Seals Program.
Ability Experience Project
For my fraternity, I volunteered my time working at a summer camp for children with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities. While there, my fraternity and I volunteered our time assisting and playing with the children with disabilities while also repairing and making the camp more accessible for the children. For instance some of the projects that we helped with such as repairing all the old boards of a tree house with new ones, building fences and repairing the roof a barn, weeding and planting flowers, and constructing a wooden porch. I though both I and my fraternity thought this was an amazing volunteer opportunity as well as giving back to our local community.
